Introducing Oliver’s Campaign

The training is named after Oliver McGowan, a young man with a learning disability and later on an Autistic diagnosis, whose tragic experience highlighted the need for better education among healthcare professionals. His story shines a light on the urgent need for better understanding in healthcare, leading to a national movement, ensuring that every professional has the knowledge and confidence to provide the best possible care and support.

Mandatory requirements

The Health and Care Act 2022 statutory requirement

Since 2022, all registered CQC providers must carry out appropriate training on learning disabilities and Autism. This isn’t just about compliance – it’s about making sure all staff have the skills to support people who are Autistic and/or have a learning disability, with dignity and respect. By building these principles into daily practice, staff help create a more inclusive health and social care system making sure everyone receives person-centred care and support.
